THE EFFECT OF USING “DORA THE EXPLORER” MOVIE MEDIA TOWARD STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENT IN VOCABULARY (An Experimental Study in the Eighth Grade Students of State Junior High School 17 Tegal in Academic Year 2013 / 2014)

The objective of this research is to find out whether using Dora the Explorer Movie Media gives positive effect to students’ achievement in vocabulary.Based on review of related theories, frame of thinking a hypothesis of this research is the use of Dora the Explorer Movie Media will give positive effect toward students’ achievement in vocabulary.
This population of this research is the eighth grade students of State Junior High School 17 Tegal. The sample of this study is 60 students, the each of 30 students. This research uses random sampling technique to take the samples. The instrument used in this research is test. The type of the test used is multiple choices with 4 options (A, B, C, or D). The number of the test is 40 items done in 60 minutes. The writer conducts try out test on 30 students who have the same ability with research samples to determine the validity and reliability of the test instrument. Data analysis is tested by using t-test, to test the average difference of two groups. The t- table is 2,000 at the 5% significance level and degrees of freedom (df) 58so, t is higher than t-table (3,304 > 2,000).The calculation data obtained hypothesis of this research is accepted.Based on the result of this study, it is concluded that the use Dora the Explorer Movie Media give positive effect toward students’ achievement in vocabulary after they are taught using Dora the Explorer movie media in the Eighth grade at State Junior High School 17 Tegal in Academic year 2013/2014.
After doing the research, the writer has some suggestions. The teacher should have creativity to teach the students because there are many media of teaching to be applied in the class and the teacher should give motivation to students in learning English, therefore the students will improve their competence in English.
