“THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING SPEEDY THINK TANK GAME TOWARDS STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT” (An Experiment Study of Seventh Grade Students of SMP N 12 Tegal in Academic Year 2013/ 2014)
Keyword: Speedy Think Tank game and students’ mastery in vocabulary.
The objective of this research is to find out the effectiveness of using Speedy Think Tank game towards students’ vocabulary achievement of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 12 Tegal in academic year 2013/ 2014.
Based on the review of related literature, the hypothesis of the research is proposed as follows: applying Speedy Think Tank game give positive effect towards students vocabulary achievement at the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 12 Tegal.
The population of this research is the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 12 Tegal. The number of the population is 188 students. The writer used random sampling technique to take the sample. The sample consists of 30 students as the experimental group and 30 students as the control group. The writer uses vocabulary test to measure the students’ vocabulary achievement. The form of the test is multiple choices. It consists of 40 multiple choice items. Each number has four options; a, b, c, and d. The time allotment of that test is 60 minutes.
The result of statistical analysis of this research is tested by using t-test to test the difference between the experimental group and the control group. The result of t-test is 2,736 whereas ttable (2,736>2.576) at significance level of 5% and degree of freedom is 58. The result of t-test is higher than t-table. It means that there is a significant difference of students’ vocabulary achievement between the students who are taught by using Speedy Think Tank game and the students who aren’t taught by using Speedy think Tank game.
Thus, it can be concluded that the use of Speedy Think Tank game can give positive effect on the vocabulary achievement of the seventh grade students at SMP Negeri 12 Tegal in the academic year 2013/2014.
