THE EFFECT OF WRITING PERSONAL EXPERIENCES IN A DIARY MODEL TOWARDS STUDENTS’ WRITING ACHIEVEMENT IN MAKING NARRATIVE TEXT (An Experimental Research of the Tenth Grade Students of SMA Muhammadiyah Kota Tegal in Academic Year of 2013/2014)

The objectives of this research are to figure out whether or not the implementation of writing personal experiences in a diary model gives positive effect on students’ writing achievement in making narrative text, to find out the effectiveness of the implementation of this model, and to find out the students’ response towards the implementation.
The population in this research is the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Kota Tegal which are 46 students. All the numbers of the tenth grade students are taken as the samples and divided into two groups; they are experimental group and control group. Each group consists of 23 students. The experimental group is taught by using writing personal experiences in a diary model and the control group is taught by conventional method. The researcher uses pretest, posttest, documentation and written interview to get the data. For documentation photographs are taken during the implementation of this model. The written interview is intended to figure out the students’ response towards the implementation of writing personal experiences in a diary model.
The result of posttest score shows that the sum of the experimental group is 1724 and the control group is 1346. It means the implementation of this model gives positive effect towards the students’ writing achievement in making narrative text. Then, the calculation of t-test shows that t-test is 10.057 with the degree of freedom (df) is 44. The level of significant (α) is 5% and the t-table is 1.684. It means that t-test is significantly higher than t-table (10.057>1.684). Therefore, the null hypothesis (Ho) is refused and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. From both results of posttest score and t-test calculation, it is found out that the implementation of this model is very effective. Meanwhile, the percentages’ result of students’ written interview answers shows 78.26% of the students agree that the implementation of writing personal experiences in a diary model could improve their writing skill in making narrative text.
