THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING CAROUSEL FEEDBACK TECHNIQUE IN THE TEACHING OF READING FOR THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL (An Experimental Research at SMA N 1 Bojong in the Academic Year of 2013/2014)
Key Words: Carousel Feedback Technique in the Teaching of Reading, Experimental research.
This research is about Carousel Feedback Technique as a technique in the teaching of reading. The objective of this research is to find out whether Carousel Feedback Technique is effective to teach reading at the eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 Bojong in the academic year of 2013/2014. Based on the review of related literature and frame of thinking, the hypothesis of this research is purposed as follows: “The use of Carousel Feedback Technique is effective in the Teaching of Reading for the Eleventh Grade Students of Senior High School.”
The type of this research is experimental research. The population of this research is the whole of eight grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Bojong in the academic year of 2013/2014 which consists of 219 students of 7 classes. The research takes 60 students as a sampling that are selected by using two group design and the technique that the writer used is cluster random sampling. The sample consists of two groups. They are 30 students in Experimental Group who are taught by using Carousel Feedback Technique and 30 students in Control Group who are taught by using Conventional Technique. The writer uses reading test as the instrument of the research. The test consists of the materials of Hortatory Exposition text and Narrative text. The test needs 90 minutes to do. The type of the test is multiple choice test with five options. The test is conducted after the two groups get treatment for 6 meetings. To know the validity of the instrument, the writer tried out the instrument by giving a test to 30 students who has the same competence.
The data analysis of this research is tested by using t-test. It is used for testing the different means of the two groups. After having connected to the significant 5% t-table is 2,000, so that the result of calculation analysis shows that t-test is 5,811. It means that t-test > t-table. It means that the objective of this research is achieved. In other words, there is significant difference reading achievement between the students who are taught by using Carousel Feedback Technique and those who are taught by using Conventional Technique. It can be concluded that the use of Carousel Feedback Technique is effective in the Teaching of Reading for the Eleventh Grade Students of Senior High School. Thus, the teacher could use Carousel Feedback Technique to improve the students’ reading achievement.
