THE EFFECT OF COOPERATIVE LEARNING TECHNIQUE TYPE “ROUND TABLE” ON STUDENTS’ WRITING ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Research on the Second Graders of SMP N 1 Tarub in the Academic Year of 2013/2014)

The objectives of this research are to find out the positive effect toward students’ writing achievement by using round table technique and to find out the difference between the students who are taught by using round table technique and who are not taught by sing round table technique of junior high school at SMP N 1 Tarub in the academic year of 2013/2014.
The population of this research is the second graders of SMP N 1 Tarub. The number of population is 326 students. The writer uses cluster random sampling technique to choose the sample of the study. The number of sample is 60 students. The sample consists of two groups; each group consists of 30 students. Group I is experimental group which consists of the students who are taught by using round table technique. Group II is control group which consists of the students who are not taught by using round table technique. The writer uses post test as the instrument research. The test needs 60 minutes to do. The type of the test is essay test.
The data is analyzed by using SPSS 16. It shows that t-test is 5,264, with degree freedom is 58 and the level significance (α) 5 % = 2,000. It is absolutely said that t-test is higher than t-table (5,246>2,000), so the hypothesis of this research is accepted. From the result of the data analysis, the writer can conclude that the use of round table technique gives positive effect on the students writing achievement to the second graders at SMP N 1 Tarub in the academic year of 2013/2014. In addition, there is difference between students who are taught by using round table technique and students who are not taught by using round table technique. Students who are taught by using round table technique are more active than students who are not taught by using round table technique. Thus, the writer suggests that the reader can increase knowledge about the effect of using round table technique in teaching learning writing narrative text.
