THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING TEAM PAIR SOLO TECHNIQUE INTHE TEACHING OF WRITING FOR ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL ( An Experimental Study in SMA N 1 Bojong in the Academic Year of 2013/2014 )
Key Words : The Use of Team Pair Solo Technique, Teaching Writing, The Eleventh Grade Students of SMA N 1 Bojong.
The objective of the research is to find out whether the use of Team Pair Solo technique is effective in the teaching of writing for eleventh grade students of Senior High School at SMA N 1 Bojong in the academic year of 2013/2014.
Population of the research is the eleventh grade students of Senior High School at SMA N 1 Bojong in the academic year of 2013/2014. The number of population is 220 students which consist of 7 classes. Cluster random sampling technique is used in taking sample of the research. The sample consists of two groups, the students of XI IPA 3 as experimental group and the students of XI IPA 4 as control group which consist of 25 students per group.
The instrument of the research is a writing test. The kind of the test is a guided composition with the topic “Cheating on The Examination”. The test takes 90 minutes to do. The test is conducted after the two groups get treatment for 8 meetings. The writing test is assessed by using scoring rubric of writing.
The data of the research is obtained from the result of writing test of experimental group and control group. Data analysis is tested by using t-test. The result of t-test is 3,615 and it is consulted with 5% significant level and the degree of freedom (df) of 48, the t-table obtained is 1,677. It shows that the result of t-test is higher than t-table (3,615>1,677). So, hypothesis of the research is accepted.
The conclusion of the research is that the students who are taught by using Team Pair Solo Technique get better writing achievement than students who are taught by using Direct Instruction. It proves that the use of Team Pair Solo Technique is effective in the teaching of writing to the eleventh grade students of Senior High School at SMA N 1 Bojong in the academic year of 2013/2014.
Based on the research findings, it is recommended for the teachers to use Team Pair Solo Technique in teaching of writing. Team Pair Solo Technique is one of effective techniques that can be used in teaching of writing. Team Pair Solo Technique can make the students able to write a text by gradual steps and it can reduce the students’ anxiety in composing an English text. It is suggested to make a game in implementing Team Pair Solo Technique in order to reduce the students’ boredom in composing a text.
