THE EFFECT OF USING WORD MAP TECHNIQUE TOWARDS VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT FOR FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (An Experimental Research to the Fifth Grade Students of SD Negeri Slawi Kulon02 in the Academic Year 2013/2014)

The Purpose of this research is to gain information about the effect of using Word Map Technique towards vocabulary achievement for fifth grade students of Elementary School at SD Negeri Slawi Kulon 02 in academic year 2013/2014.
Based on the theoretical background and logical framework, the hypothesis of this research is “The use of Word Map Technique gives positive effect towards vocabulary achievement for fifth grade students of Elementary School at SD Negeri Slawi Kulon 02”. In other words, the students who are taught by using Word Map Technique have better vocabulary achievement than students who are taught without using Word Map Technique.
The population of this research is fifth grade students of elementary school at Slawi Kulon district, Tegal regency. The number of population is 192 students. The writer uses random sampling technique to choose the sample of the study. The writer uses random sampling to get 20 students each class. The sample consists of two groups; each group consists of 20 students. Group I is experimental group, it consists of the students who are taught by using Word Map Technique. Group II is control group, it consists of the students who are taught without using Word Map Technique.
The writer uses final test as the research instrument. The test needs 45 minutes to do. The type of the test is multiple choice.
The data is analyzed by using t-test formula. It shows that t-test result is 2,461, with degree freedom is 38 and the level of significant (α) 5% = 1,685 it is absolutely said that t-test is higher than t-table (2,461>1,685), because of the t-test is higher than t-table, so that hypothesis of the research is accepted. It means that there is significant difference between experimental group and control group.
From the result of data analysis, the writer can conclude that the use of Word Map Technique gives positive effect on the students vocabulary achievement at the fifth grade students of Elementary School at SD Negeri Slawi Kulon 02 in academic year 2013/2014.
The writer suggests that the teacher need to use word map technique in teaching vocabulary because word map is useful and easy to be implemented. It could inspire students mind what they have an idea to write some vocabulary. It is also can be used to find some new words in learning vocabulary.By word map technique, students will not find difficulties in getting a new vocabulary.
