Key Words: Pictures of Public Figures, Students’ Writing Achievement, Experimental Study.
The objectives of this research are to describe the effectivenes of using pictures of public figures in teaching writing descriptive texts; and to find outwhether or not there is a significance score difference between the studentswho are taught by using pictures of public figures and who are not taught by using pictures of public figure to students’ writing achievement in writing descriptive texts.
The population of this research is the whole of the seventh grade students of A until D class of MTs. Al-Asy’ariyah, in the academic year of 2013/2014 which are 144 students. The writer takes 72 students of the sample from C class and B class by using random sampling technique which is devided into two groups; it consists of 36 students for each group. The first group is the experiment group and the second group is the control group. This study is categorized as a quantitative descriptive research.
The technique for collecting data is used an instrument test of the research. The type of the test that is used in this research is writing test. The test consists of the materials of writing based on the syllabus. The form of the test is written test consists of one instruction. The time allocation of the test is 60 minutes. Therefore, data analysis of this research is tested by using t-test. The result of t-ratio is 14,328, whereas t-table 2,3801 at significant level of 5% and degree of freedom is 70. It proves that the result of t-ratio is higher than t-table (14,328 > 2,3801). Because the result of the t-test is higher than t-table, thus the zero hypothesis (H_0) is refused and the alternative hypothesis (H_1) is accepted. It means that there is a significance effect of the first group and the second group. Thus, it can be concluded that the teacher could use pictures of public figures to improve the students’ writing achievement.
