THE EFFECT OF USING COOPERATIVE LEARNING TECHNIQUE “INDEX CARD MATCH” ON STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Research to the Fifth Grade Students at SD Ihsaniyah Gajah Mada Tegal in the Academic Year of 2013/2014)

Vocabulary is an important component in the language of person, where all kinds of understanding, ideas, concepts, thoughts and fancies are born with the language. The essential thing in learning English is about the mastery of vocabulary, and then a teacher should be able to choose appropriate learning techniques so that students are not bored in the implementation of learning. The problem in this research is to find out whether there is any positive effect of using index card match technique on students’ vocabulary achievement after they are taught by index card match technique.
Based on the theory, the research hypothesis is drawn as follows: there is significant effect of index card match technique on the students’ vocabulary achievement to the fifth grade students of SD Ihsaniyah Gajah Mada Tegal in the academic year of 2013/2014. This is an experimental study. Two-group design was used in this experiment. Population of this research is the fifth grade students of SD Ihsaniyah Gajah Mada Tegal which are totally 45 students. The writer uses random sampling as the method to get the sample. The total number of the samples are 40 students. The tests used in this research including pretest and posttest. Post test is used to test the hypothesis.
The data shows score of t table at 95% level of confidence and on the degree of 38 is 2,021. While to is 2,564, so t-ratio is higher than t table (2,564>2,021). According to the calculation, null hypothesis is rejected, and alternative hypothesis is accepted. It means there is significance effect on the students’ vocabulary achievement after they are taught by using index card match technique. By using index card match technique, it makes the English vocabulary activity more effective, efficient, and interesting because the students may feel free and confident\. Thus, having considered it, the writer suggests the teachers to use index card match technique.
