THE EFFECT OF USING CHARADES GAME TOWARDS THE STUDENTS’ READING ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Research at Eighth Graders of MTs Sunan Kalijaga Siwuluh in Academic Year of 2013/2014)

The objective of this research is to know the effect of using charades game towards the students’ reading achievement at eighth graders of MTs Sunan Kalijaga Siwuluh on second semester in academic year of 2013 – 2014.
The population of this research is the eighth graders of MTs Sunan Kalijaga Siwuluh which are 296 students. The writer takes 60 students as sample. The writer uses cluster random sampling technique to choose the sample that consists of two groups. The first group is experimental group, and the second group is control group. Each group consists of 30 students. The research instrument is reading test that forms multiple choices. The test consists of 30 items that has four alternative options (a, b, c or d).
The data is analyzed by using t-test to know whether the hypothesis is accepted or not. The data result shows that t0 is 10,448, and t-table is 1,671 at significant level of 5% (0,05) and degree of freedom (df) is 58. As t0 is higher than t-table (10,448 > 1,671) the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, and the null hypothesis (Ho) is refused. It can be concluded that using Charades game gives positive effect towards the students’ reading achievement at eighth graders of MTs Sunan Kalijaga Siwuluh Semester 2 in academic year of 2013 – 2014.
Based on the research result, the writer suggests using charades game for teaching and learning reading. The writer recommends to add some procedures in applying charades game
