THE EFFECTIVENESS OF JAZZ CHANTS TECHNIQUE TOWARDS STUDENTS’ GRAMMAR ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Research at the Second Grade Students of Junior High School of SMP Negeri 3 Comal in the Academic Year of 2013/2014)

The objective of this research is to find out whether Jazz Chants Techniques gives positive effect towards students’ grammar achievement on the Second Grade Students of SMP N 3 Comal in the Academic Year 2013/2014. The research is experimental research. The writer uses two-group design by applying pretest-posttest control group design. The sample of this research is taken by using cluster random sampling technique. It is divided into two groups and each group consists of 30 students. First group is experimental group who are taught by using Jazz Chants and second group is control group who are not taught by using Jazz Chants.
Data analysis of this research is computed by using t-test. Based on the result with the degree of freedom (df) 58 on the level significant of 5%, t-table is 1,645, it shows that t-test is higher than t-table (3,725>1,645). Based on posttest computing analysis result, it is also found that the mean of experimental group is 82,56 and mean of control group is 74,44. It means that mean of experimental group is higher than control group (82,56>74,44). Based on the result, it can be stated that hypothesis of this research (H1) is accepted.
The conclusion of this research is Jazz Chants Technique gives positive effect on the students’ grammar achievement on the second grade students of SMP N 3 Comal in the academic year 2013/2014. However, in the application of Jazz Chants techniques the teachers are suggested to choose or make their own Jazz Chants by considering the students’ needs and the students’ ability. Thus, the more effective and efficient teaching learning will be created.
