THE EFFECT OF USING COOPERATIVE LEARNING TYPE “THE LEARNING CELL” TOWARD STUDENTS’ READING ABILITY (An Experimental Research on the Seventh Grade Students of State Junior High School 3 Adiwerna in the Academic Year of 2013-2014)

The study is aimed to find out whether or not there is positive effect of using Cooperative Learning Type “The Learning Cell” Towards Students’ Reading Ability at The Seventh Grade Students of State Junior High School 3 Adiwerna in Academic Year 2013/2014.
Based on the review of relative theories and the frame of thinking, the hypothesis of the this research is; There is Positive Effect of Using Cooperative Learning Type “The Learning Cell” Towards Students’ Reading Ability on the Seventh Grade Students of State Junior High School 3 Adiwerna in Academic Year 2013/2014.
This research is experimental which uses two group designs; the first group is experimental group and the second group is control group. Population of this study is seventh grade students of State Junior High School 3 Adiwerna consists of more 306 students. To collect the data, the writer takes 60 students of the population as the samples by using cluster random sampling. The first group as experimental group consists of 30 students which are giving the learning cell technique and the second group as control group which are not giving the learning cell technique. In this research, the writer uses the material text of reading test of multiple choices and completion as the instrument of the research that consists of 30 items. To analyze the data, the writer uses t-test formula to know the positive effect of using cooperative learning type “the learning cell”. The writer uses the formula of product moment to know whether the instrument is valid and reliable.
Furthermore, the data is tested by t-test formula. Score of t-table at 5 % level of significance (α) 5 % is 2,002 (t1). While,t0 is 2,439. Therefore, t-test (t0) is higher than t-table (t1) (2,439 > 2,002). Thus, Hypothesis alternative (H1) is accepted. It means, there is positive effect of using cooperative learning type “the learning cell” towards students’ reading ability at the seventh grade students of State Junior High School 3 Adiwerna in academic year 2013/2014.
From the data analysis above, the writer can conclude that the use of Cooperative Learning Type “The Learning Cell” gives positive effect towards the Students’ Reading Ability at the Seventh Grade Students of State Junior High School 3 Adiwerna in Academic Year 2013/2014.
