THE EFFECT OF GIVING TANGIBLE REWARD TOWARD ENGLISH ACHIEVEMENT OF FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (An Experimental Study in Elementary School of Sub-District Taman in the Academic Year of 2013/2014)

The aim of the research is to find out the effect of giving tangible reward toward students’ vocabulary achievement at fifth grade students Elementary School of Sub-district of Taman in the Academic Year 2013/2014. The problem formulation in this research is “Is there a positive effect of giving tangible reward toward the students’ vocabulary achievement?”
This research is experimental study. The population of this research is the Fifth Grade students in Elementary School of Sub-District of Taman in the academic year 2013/2014 which consists of 880 students from 22 Schools and in each school has one class for fifth grade. In this research the writer uses 2 Schools which consist of 60 students for the sample who are selected by using cluster random sampling technique. In designing study the writer uses Two-Group Design which consists of two classes that have same level, those are experiment group and control group. In each group consists of 30 students. The writer uses test as the type of instrument of the research by using multiple choice designs with four alternatives A, B, C and D.
Data analysis of the research is tested by using t-test, to test the difference of the means of the experiment group and control group. After having consulted to the significant level of 5% t-table is 1,645, so that the result of calculation analysis show t-ratio is 1,822. It means the result of t-test is higher than t-table. Thus the hypothesis of this research is accepted. The conclusion of this research shows that giving tangible reward has positive effect toward student’s vocabulary achievement at fifth grade students Elementary School of Sub-District of Taman in the academic year 2013/2014. As suggestion, the teacher should be able to select the appropriate model of learning just like giving tangible reward.
Teaching English by giving tangible reward improve student’s vocabulary achievement. It progress informally, without causing stress and bored. The writer suggests to use this model in teaching vocabulary especially in elementary svhool
