THE EFFECT OF APPLYING FLIPPED CLASSROOM METHOD TOWARDS STUDENTS READING ABILITY (An Experimental Study of the Eight Grade of State Junior High School 2 Ulujami in the Academic Year 2013/2014)

The objectives of this research is to find out the effect of the application of flipped classroom method toward students’ reading ability of the eight grade students of State Junior High School 2 Ulujami in the academic year 2013/2014.
Based on the theory, the reasearch hypotesis is drawn as follows: students who are taught by applying flipped classroom method will get better reading achievement than those who are not taught by applying flipped classroom method in the academic year 2013/2014.
This is on experimental research. The research has been conducted at State Junior High School 2 Ulujami in the academic year 2013/2014. The total subject is 320 students. In this research, the writer uses random sampling technique to choose the subject of the research. The writer takes 60 students as the sample of the research. They are divided into two groups. Each group consists of 30 students. The first group (Experimental group) comparises the students who are taught by applying flipped classroom method and the other group (Control group) comparises the students who are not taught by applying flipped classroom method.
To check the reading achievement after the treatment was given to the experiment group and the control group, the writer gave a test directly. The kind of test is a multiple choice about test reading and it consists of 30 items.
Afterwards, the data is test by t-test formula, to determine whether or not there is a significant different result between the two groups. The result of this reserach is that t-data is 4,882 and then it is consult with t-table. After it, it consulted with t-table by degree of freedom (Df) 58 on degree 5% t-table is 1,645. Based on the analysis show that the result of t-test is greater t-table (4,882>1,645).
The conclusion of this research is applying flipped classroom method gives positive effect toward Students’ reading achievement of the eighth grade of State Junior High School 2 Ulujami in the academic year 2013/2014. However, in the application of flipped classroom method the teacher are suggested to choose appropiate method in teaching learning to make the students active to improve students’ English achievement. Second, the teacher can motivate students’ Learning by applying flipped classroom method. It is one method that could be used by the teacher in teaching English as foreign language.
