THE EFFECT OF THE USE OF FOXFIRE TEACHING STRATEGY ON THE WRITING ACHIEVEMENT OF THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL (An Experimental Study of The Eleventh Grade Students at SMA Negeri 1 Comal in the Academic Year of 2013/2014)

This research is aimed to describe the use of foxfire teaching strategy on the student’s writing achievement and to find out whether or not the use of foxfire teaching strategy gives positive effect to the students’ writing achievement. The writer limit the problem that is the effect of the use of foxfire teaching strategy on the writing achievement of the eleventh grade students of Senior High School 1 Comal. Formulation of the problem of this research is “Does the use of foxfire teaching strategy give positive effect on the writing achievement of the eleventh grade students of Senior High School 1 Comal in the academic year of 2013/2014”. Based on the review of related theory and logical framework, the hypothesis of the research is formulated as follows: The use of Foxfire Teaching Strategygives positive effecttothe writingachievement of the eleventh grade students of SeniorHigh School Negeri 01 of Comal.
This research is an experimental research. In conducting the research, the writer used two group designs. The population of this research is all of the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Comal academic year 2013/2014. The total number of population is 360 students. They are divided into 9 classes. 60 students from two classes are chosen as the sample of this research by using cluster random sampling technique. They are 30 students from class XI IPS 3 as the experimental group, a group which consist of students who are taught by using foxfire strategy and 30 students from class XI IPS 2 as control group, a group which consist of students who are taught by using guided writing strategy.
This research uses a writing test as the research instrument to collect data, the data is then analysed by using t-test formula. Based on the data analysis, the value of t-test is 3.258 with Degree of Freedom (df) is 30+30–2=58, and Significant Level is 5%, the value of t – table is 1.645, it means that t – test is higher than t-table (3.258 > 1.645). Hence hypothesis of the research: The use of Foxfire Teaching Strategygives positive effecttothe writingachievement of the eleventh grade students of the State SeniorHigh School Negeri 01 of Comal is accepted. The conclusion is there is positive effect of the use of foxfire strategy toward writing achievement of the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Comal. It is suggested for teacher to consider foxfire strategy as one of the strategy that can be used to solve their students’ difficulties in writing learning process. Therefore they can improve students’ writing achievement.
