THE EFFECT OF THE APPLICATION OF COMMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE TEACHING METHOD USING BOARD GAMES TOWARD STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ABILITY (An Experimental Research on the Eighth Grade Students of MTs At-Taqwa Jatingarang Bodeh in Academic Year 2013/2014)

This thesis is based on a study on speaking ability performed by 40 students to find out whether using Communicative Language Teaching Method Using Board Games gives positive effect on students’ speaking ability or not. This is an experimental research with two-group design.
Based on review of related theories, frame of thinking a hypothesis of this research is the application of Communicative Language Teaching Method Using Board Games will give a positive effect toward students’ speaking ability.
The population of this research is the eighth grade students of MTs At-Taqwa Jatingarang Bodeh Pemalang. This research uses random sampling technique to take the samples. The instrument used in this research is test. The type of the test used is interview with 10 options. Data analysis is tested by using t-test, to test the average difference of two groups. The result of t-test showed that t- counted is 2,663 and the t- table is 2,021 at the 5% significance level and degrees of freedom (df) 38 so, t is higher than t-table (2,663> 2,021). Based on the calculation data obtained hypothesis of this research is accepted. Based on the result of this study, it is concluded that the use of Communicative Language Teaching Method Using Board Games give a positive effect toward students’ speaking ability after they were taught using Communicative Language Teaching Method Using Board Games in the Eighth grade at MTs At-Taqwa Jatingarang Bodeh Pemalang in Academic Year of 2013-2014.
The writer suggests that Communicative Language Teaching Method Using Board Games would be one of appropriate and effective method in teaching speaking ability which is easy to be applied. It has no specific procedure and only relies on drilling students to practice speaking. Giving that Communicative Language Teaching Method Using Board Games is useful to help to solve students’ problem in speaking.
