THE EFFECT OF USING CIRC (COOPERATIVE INTEGRATED READING AND COMPOSITION) TECHNIQUE TOWARD STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Research to the Second Grade Students of SMPN 1 Tegal in the Academic Year of 2014)

The objectives of this thesis are to explain the implementation of CIRC Technique of the students’ reading comprehension achievement, and find out whether there is positive effect on students reading comprehension achievement after they are taught by CIRC Technique. CIRC Technique can make students know new knowledge in learning reading and it can help the teacher in learning process.
Based on the related theories, the research hypothesis is drawn as follows: there is positive effect on the students’ reading comprehension achievement of the second grade students of SMPN 1 Tegal in the academic year of 2014 after they are taught by CIRC Technique. This research is experimental and used two-group design. The population in this research is the students of the second grade of SMPN 1 Tegal. The writer uses cluster random sampling as the technique to get the sample and taking 24 students as the sample in this research.
In this research, the writer uses post test, it is used to know the positive effect of using CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition) Technique toward students’ reading comprehension achievement.
The data shows score of t table at 5% level of significance and on the degree freedom of 46 is 1,645. While t ratio is 3,515, so t ratio is higher than t table (3,515>1,645). According to the calculation, hypothesis null (Ho) is refused and hypothesis alternative (Hı) is accepted. It means that there is a positive effect on the students’ reading comprehension achievement after they are taught by CIRC Technique at the students in second grade at SMPN 1 Tegal in the academic year of 2014.
