THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING CHAIN SENTENCE GAME IN THE TEACHING OF WRITING FOR ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL (An Experimental Study at State Senior High School 3 Tegal in the Academic Year 2013 / 2014)

This research is aimed to find out whether there is significant difference between the students who are taught by using chain sentence game and the students who are taught without using chain sentence game. Based on the theoretical background, the hypothesis of this research is there is significant difference between the students who are taught by using chain sentence game and the students who are taught without using chain sentence game.
The population of this research is all of the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 3 Tegal in the academic year 2013/2014 which consists of 253 students. By using cluster random sampling technique, the writer takes 60 students as the sample of this research which is divided into two groups. The first group is experimental group that consists of 30 students who are taught by using chain sentence game and the second group is control group that consists of 30 students who are taught without using chain sentence game.
The data of this research is gained from the result of writing test. Analysis data of this research is calculated by using t-test to test hypothesis. The result of t-test is 4,4337, whereas t-table 1,645 at the significant level of 5% and degree freedom is 58. The result of t-test is higher than t-table (4,4337 > 1,645). Therefore, alternative hypothesis of this research is accepted. It means that there is significant difference between the students who are taught by using chain sentence game and the students who are taught without using chain sentence game.
Based on the result of the analysis data, the writer concludes that the use of chain sentence game is able to improve students’ writing achievement at the eleventh grade students of State Senior High School 3 Tegal in the academic year of 2013/2014. Therefore, the writer recommends the teachers to use chain sentence game as an alternative media in the teaching of writing. Since the implementation of chain sentence game is able to build up students’ creativity in delivering their ideas to create written work.
