THE DESCRIPTIVE STUDY ON THE ROLE OF CONTEXT IN DISCOURSE ANALYSIS IN FIRST GRADE OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL (The Case at SMA Al-IrsyadKota Tegal In Academic Year 2014)

This research is aimed at knowing how is students’ understanding about the meaning and their responses of the role of context in discourse and to explore the role of context in discourseanalysis on the basis of introducing different definitions and classifications of context.The research subjects of this study are the first grade of Senior High School in the academic year of 2014/2015. This study is conducted by using qualitative research method and the techniques used are observation, interview, documentation.
The writer conducted observation in the SMA AL Irsyad Kota Tegal. Based on the observation, the researcher is elaborating the students’ perception which affects how they act and behave during the teaching and learning process. Since this research explores the students’ perception which come from the students’ experience, qualitative approach is considered as an appropriate research design. Then the result of this research is presented descriptively in order to reveal the students’ perception comprehensively.
It can be concluded that most of the students give high objection with the role of context in discourse (text) analysis.There are three role of context in discourse analysis i.e eliminating ambiguity, indicating references, and detecting conversational implication. They have deep influence in spoken language because many aspect to make misunderstanding, such as unclear speaker, bad audio, crowded situation, unsupported condition, poor class management and big class. While, for written language, they just influence if the students do not focus in a material. One solution to overcome the problem is by peer help. It is needed to improve the research from these problems as the effort to improve motivation and study result to the English material.
