THE EFFECT OF USING TAPPS (THINK ALOUD PAIR PROBLEM SOLVING) TECHNIQUE ON STUDENTS’ READING ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Research to the First Grade SMAN 1 Bulakamba in the Academic Year of 2014/2015)
Key Words: Think Aloud Pair Problem Solving technique, Reading Achievement
The objective of the research are find out how effective the use of Think Aloud Pair Problem Solving (TAPPS) technique and whether there is significance different between the students who are taught by using Think Aloud Pair Problem Solving (TAPPS) technique in teaching reading to the first grade students of SMAN 1 Bulakamba.
Based on the theory, the research hypothesis is drawn as follows: how effective and significance differences after they are taught using TAPPS. This study is an experimental. Two-group design was used in this experiment. Population of this research is the first grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Bulakamba which are totally 60 students. The writer uses random sampling as the method to get the sample. The total number of the samples are 60 students. The tests are used in this research include pre test and post. Post test is used to test both of hypothesis.
On the first hypothesisthe data shows score of t table at 95% level of confidence is 2,001. While ttest is 4,912, sot-ratio is higher than t table (4,912>2,001). And the sig 2 tailed of the test is 0,000. The sig 2 tailed is less than 0,025,and the mean of the post test is higher than pre test (80 > 68) . According to the calculation, hypothesis null (H01) is refused. It means that using TAPPSon reading achievementbetween the students who are taught by using TAPPS and students who are not taught by using TAPPS technique is effective.
While for the secondhypothesis the data shows the sig 2 tailed of the test is 0,006. The sig 2 tailed is less than 0,025.And the mean of post experiment is higher than post test control group (80>73). So the null hypothesis (H02) was refused, It means that there is significance differenceson reading achievementbetween the students who are taught by using TAPPS and students who are not taught by using TAPPS technique.
By using TAPPS technique, it makes the English reading activity more effective, efficient, and interesting because the students may freely and confidently. Thus, having considered it, the writer suggests the teachers to use TAPPS technique.
