THE EFFECT OF USING REVIEW SCRABBLE GAME ON STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT ( An Experimental Study to the First Grade Students of SMP Ihsaniyah Tegal in Academic Year of 2014/2015)

The essential thing in learning English is about the mastery of vocabulary, and then a teacher should be able to choose appropriate learning techniques so that students are not bored in the implementation of learning. The objective of this research is to find out the effect of using review scrabble game on the students’ vocabulary achievement at the first grade of SMP Ihsaniyah Tegal in the academic year of 2014/2015.
Based on the theory, the research hypothesis is drawn as follows: using review scrabble game is not effective in teaching vocabularyand there is no significance differences after they are taught using review scrabble game. This study is an experimental. Two-group design was used in this experiment. Population of this research is the first grade students of SMP IhsaniyahTegal which are totally 56 students. The writer uses random sampling as the method to get the sample. The total number of the samples are 48 students. The tests used in this research including pretest and posttest. Post test is used to test the hypothesis.
On the first hypothesis the data shows score of t table at 95% level of confidence and on the degree of 46 is 1,679. While to is 4,489, sot-ratio is higher than t table (4,489>1,679). According to the calculation, hypothesis is null is rejected. It means there is positive effect on the experimental group after they are taught by review scrabble game.
While for the secondhypothesis the data shows score of t table at 95% level of confidence is 1,679 and on the degree of 46 is 1,679. While ttest is 2,734, sot-ratio is higher than t table (2,734>1,679). According to the calculation, hypothesis null is rejected. It means that there is significance differenceson vocabulary achievementbetween the students who are taught by using review scrabble game and students who are not taught by using review scrabble game.
By using review scrabble game, it makes the English vocabulary activity more effective, efficient, and interesting because the students may freely and confidently. Thus, having considered it, the writer suggests the teachers to use review scrabble game.
