THE EFFECT OF USING TWO STAY TWO STRAY STRATEGY ON THE STUDENTS’ READING ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Research to the Eighth Graders of SMP Negeri 4 Brebes in the Academic Year of 2014/2015)

The objectives of this research is to find out the effectiveness of using two stay two stray strategy on the students’ reading achievement, and the significant difference between students who taught using two stay two stray strategy and students who are not using two stay two stray strategy on the students’ reading achievement to the eighth graders of SMP Negeri 4 Brebes in the Academic Year of 2014/2015. There are experimental group and control group. Each group consists of 34 students. The sample is taken by using random sampling technique. Group one is experimental group that consists of students who are taught using two stay two stray strategy and group two is control group that consists of students who are not taught using two stay two stray strategy. The writer uses reading test as the instrument of this research. There are 40 multiple choice items as the instrument.
Data analysis of this research is tested by using t-test. Based on the result, with degree of freedom (df) 66 on the level of significance 5% with 2-tailed test (sig=0.025) t-table is 1.997, it shows that tcount is higher than ttable (6.092 > 1.997) and the level of significance is lower than 0.025 (0.000<0.025). It means that there is significant different between experimental group and control group. Moreover, it means that using of two stay two stray strategy is effective on the students’ reading achievement to the eight graders of SMP Negeri 4 Brebes. Besides, it is found that the mean score of each group, in which the mean score of experimental group was 77.50, and control group was 72.91. The second hypothesis test, which is looking the difference between the two groups’ result, it shows that t-test is higher than ttable (2.265 > 1.997) and the level of significance (α) is lower than 0.025 (0.003 < 0.025), it means there is a significant different between students who taught using two stay two stray and students who not taught by using two stay two stray .
The conclusion of this research is that using two stay two stray is effective on the students reading achievement to eight graders of SMP Negeri 4 Brebes in the Academic Year of 2014/2015. According to the experience in this research, the writer offer suggestion to the teacher to improve students’ reading skill by implementing two stay two stray, especially in Junior High School.
