THE EFFECT OF INSIDE OUTSIDE CIRCLE TECHNIQUE ON STUDENTS’ READING ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Study to the Sixth Grade Students at SD N Ciduwet 1 Ketanggungan-BrebesAcademic Year of 2014/2015)

Reading is an important tool to open the world’s knowledge. By reading, the students get many advantages; the readers will be given the opportunity to share the thinking of great minds of another culture, and also to widen the horizon of their knowledge and understanding.
Based on the theory, the research hypothesis is drawn as follows: there is significant effect of inside outside circle technique on the reading achievement at the sixth grade students of SD N Ciduwet 1 in the academic year of 2014/2015. This is an experimental study. Two-group design was used in this experiment. Population of this research is students of SD N Ciduwet 1 and SD N Ketanggungan 10 which are totally 90 students. The writer uses random sampling as the method to get the sample. The total number of the samples are 60 students. The test which is used in this research are pretest and posttest. Post test is used to test the hypothesis.
Based on the independent sample test, the score of t ratio is 2,291. T table at 95% confidence level and on the degree of freedom 58 is 2,002. So, t-ratio is higher than t-table (2.291>2.002). According to the calculation, null hypothesis is rejected, and alternative hypothesis is accepted. It means that there is a significant effect on the students’ reading achievement after they are taught by using inside outside circle technique. While in the paired sample test, the score of t ratio is 14,817 and t-table at 95% level confidence and on the degree of freedom 29 is 2,045. So, t ratio is higher than t-table (14.817>2.045). According to the calculation, null hypothesis is rejected and alternative hypothesis is accepted. It means that there is a positive effect of using inside outside circle technique. By using inside outside circle technique, it makes the English reading activity more effective, efficient and interesting because the students may feel free and confident. Thus, the writer suggests the teachers to use this.
