THE EFFECT OF USING FISH BOWL TECHNIQUE TOWARD THE VOCABULARY MASTERY OF THE EIGTHGRADE STUDENTS OF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL ( An Experimental Study of the Second Grade Students at SMP Negeri 1 Wanasari in the Academic Year of 2014/2015)

The objective of this research is to find out if there is any significant difference of the students’ vocabulary mastery between those who are taught by using fishbowl technique and those who are not taught by using fishbowl technique in the teaching of vocabulary for eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Wanasariin the academic year of 2013/2014.
The population of this research is the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Wanasari in the academic year of 2013/2014. The number of population is 360 students from 9 classes. This research is conducted by using two group design; the first group is called experimental group who is taught by using Fishbowl Technique, while the second group is called control group who is taught by using Word Wall Strategy. The sample is taken by using cluster random sampling. Each group of samples consists of 30 students.
This research is experimental research that involves two variables, they are the implementation of fishbowl technique and word wall strategy. Those variables are influenced each other as the function of this research is to see whether the implementation of fishbowl technique can influence students’ mastery on vocabulary lesson.
The research instrument that used in this research is multiple choices that consists of 30 questions. To measure the validity and the reability of the test, the writer tries out the instrument to the try out group which consists of 40 questions.
Data analysis of this research is tested by using t-test in order to find out whether the research hypothesis is accepted or not. Based on the calculation, the t-ratio is 2.027. It is consulted with t-table on the significant level (α) of 5% and the degree of freedom (df) is 58. The t-table obtained is 1.672. It proves that t-ratio is higher than t-table (2.027> 1.672), so the hypothesis of the research is accepted.
The conclusion of this research is that students who are taught by using Fishbowl technique get better vocabulary mastery than students who are taught by using Word Wall Strategy. Fishbowl Technique is proven to be one of the effective techniques to make students interested in learning vocabulary. It also makes the situation in the classroom more lively, so it prevents the students from getting bored.
