THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING FRAYER MODEL TOWARDS STUDENTS’ READING ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Research at the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA N 1 Sragi in the Academic Year of 2013/2014)

The objective of this research is to know whether the use of frayer model gives positive effect to the students’ reading achievement at the eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 Sragi in the academic year of 2013/2014.
Based on the review of related theories and frame of thinking, the research hypothesis is proposed as follows: Frayer Model has positive effect to the students reading achievement at the eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 Sragi in the academic year of 2013/2014.
The population of this research is all of the eleventh grade students in the second semester of SMA Negeri 1 Sragi in the academic year of 2013/2014. The total number of the students are 264. The samples of the research are 60 students taken by using cluster random sampling. They are classified into two group, group I consists of 30 students as experiment class who are taught by frayer model and group II consists of 30 students as control class who are taught by using grammar translation method.
The writer uses reading test as the instrument of the research. The type of the test is multiple choice tests with five options. To know the validity of the instrument, the writer had tried out the instrument by giving a test to 30 students having the same level competence.
T-test is used to know the difference result of two groups. The result of calculation analysis shows that t-test = 4,286, and then it is consulted to the level of significance 5% t-table = 1,645. It means that the result of t-test is higher than t-table. The hypothesis of this research is accepted.
The conclusion of this research shows that the use of frayer model has positive effect towards reading achievement to the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sragi in the academic year 2013/2014.
