THE EFFECT OF USING SCAFFOLDED READING EXPERIENCE (SRE) ON STUDENTS’ READING ACHIEVEMENT IN READING MATERIAL (An Experimental Research of the First Grade of Junior High School Students of Daaru Ulil Al Baab in Academic Year 2013/2014)

The purpose of this research is to find out whether or not the implementation of the SRE Strategy gives positive effect towards the first grade students’ reading achievement at SMP Daaru Ulil Al Baab Tegal in the academic year 2013/2014. Based on the review of related theories and the logical framework, the hypothesis of this research is : “There is a positive effect of using Scaffolded Reading Experience (SRE) Strategy toward the Reading Achivement of the First Grade Students of SMP Daaru Ulil Al Baab Tegal in Academic Year 2013/2014”.
The population of this research is all of the first grade students of SMP Daaru Ulil Al Baab Tegal in the academic year 2013/2014 which consists of 3 classes for about 96 students. To select the sample, the writer uses RANDOM SAMPLING TECHNIQUE. The writer needs only 64 of the students for the sample, since there are only 96 students. The writer uses 32 students as an experiment group and 32 students as control group. To get the data, the writer uses a multiple choice test. To find out the validity and reliability of the test instrument the writer gives the test to 20 students as a try-out group who have the same ability as the sample of the research.
The validity of the research was obtained using the formula r-table N=20 on the significant level of 5%=0,254. The data of the research is calculated by t-test. Based on the data analysis obtained, the t-test is 5,372. On the significant level 5% t-table is 1,645. This means that t-test is higher than t-table (5,372 > 1,645). This research shows that the implementation of SRE strategy gives positive effect to the students’ reading achievement in the first grade of SMP Daaru Ulil Al Baab in the academic year 2013/2014.
Based on the result of the analysis data, the writer concludes that the use of Scaffolded Reading Experience gives positive effect on the reading achievement students at the first year students of SMP Daaru Ulil Al Baab - Tegal in the 2013/2014 of academic year. Therefore, the writer recommends the teacher to use Scaffolded Reading Experience to increase the students’ reading achievement.
