THE EFFECT OF APPLYING COOPERATIVE LEARNING “TEAM QUIZ METHOD” TOWARD STUDENTS’ READING ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Research at the Seventh Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1Talang in the Academic Year of 2014/2015)

The objective of this research is to find out whether there is any positive effect of applying cooperative team quiz method toward students’ reading achievement of seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Talang regency in the academic year of 2014 – 2015.
The population of the research is the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1Talang. To collect the data, the writer took 60 students from the population as the sample. The writer used two group design. First group consisted of 30 students who are taught by applying team quiz method and second group consisted of 30 students who are taught without applying team quiz method and the writer used cluster random sampling technique to choose the sample that is divided into two groups. The instrument of this research is multiple choice test which consists of 40 items and research used each items has four options.
t-test is used to know the difference result of two groups. The result of calculation
analysis shows that t-test = 3,043, and then it is consulted to the level of significance 5% t- table = 1,645. It means that the result of t-test is higher than t-table. The hypothesis of this research is accepted.
The conclusion of this research shows that the use of applying team quiz method has positive effect towards reading achievement tothe seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1
Talangin the academic year of 2014/2015.
English teachers are suggested to applyTeam Quiz Method in the teaching of reading. They should also motivate their students to work more creative. Furthermore, the teachers should give their students more reading assignments and evaluations to make them accustomed to reading.
