AN ANALYSIS ON THE STUDENTS’ DIFFICULTIES IN LEARNING READING COMPREHENSION (A Descriptive Study to the Second Grade Students of SMP Negeri 5 Taman Pemalang in Academi Year of 2013/2014 )

The aims of this research are to describe the difficulties in English reading comprehension faced by students and to find out the dominant factor that are difficulties. The research participants of this study are the eight grade students of Junior High School Students on the Second Semester. This study is conducted by using qualitative research method and techniques used are test and questionnaire.
The writer conducted observation in SMP Negeri 5 Taman Pemalang. Based on the observation, the result of this study is that there are six items the factors causing of the students difficulty in learning reading comprehension. They are as follows: teacher perception with percentage 15,57%, teaching method, curricula, and learning difficulties with percentage 16,55%, the importance of a successful start with percentage 16,09%, the impact of early failure with percentage 15,30%, specific area of the difficulty with percentage 18,20%, and text- processing problem with percentage 18,28%.
It can be concluded that the students get difficulties in learning reading comprehension. It can be seen from the result in answering the questionnaire. The most dominant difficulty in learning reading comprehension is text- processing problem. It shows the biggest percentage of the respondent. The writer suggests for the teacher to be able to make students interested in learning reading, comprehension, so they do not find difficulties in learning reading, and then the students should read alot the English text in order to increase their vocabulary in reading comprehension.
