IMPROVING STUDENTS’ ENGLISH LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT THROUGH TIME TOKEN ARENDS LEARNING METHOD (A Classroom action research on the fifth grade students of SD Negeri Kalipucang In the academic year 2014/2015)

The Objective of this Classroom Action Research is to find out whether the application of Time Token Arends learning method can improve the students’ English learning achievement in the fifth grade students of SD Negeri Kalipucang. According to related theories and the hypothesis of this research is “Time To ken Arends learning Method can improve the students’ English Learning achievement”. In other word, the students who are taught by using Time Token Arends learning method get better English learning achievement.
The population of this research is all fifth grade students of SD Negeri Kalipucang. Based on the observation result before the research was held, it showed that the students’ English learning achievement of fifth grade is still low. Time Token Arends learning Method is one of the teaching method which uses a card to speak/answer, where the students work with each other to rely on small groups in a cooperative structure materials were developed as an alternative to the traditional classroom structure like hands up first then the teacher appointed to answer the questions that have been asked.
This action research has been done in two cycles and consists of five meetings. Each cycle consist of Planning, Acting, Observing, and Reflecting stage. The writer uses qualitative and quantitative data to get data and then the result was analyzed. Qualitative data is used to know and observe the students’ and the teacher activities during teaching and learning process. Quantitative data is gotten from the result of students’ achievement which analyzed by using the percentage. The successful indicator of this classroom action research is 85% of the students had to get score 65 (minimum).
The research result shows that the students’ English learning achievement increased. There were 62% of the students who got score more than 65 in Pre Cycle. In Pre-Test there were 29% of the students who got score more than 65. It was caused since there was not treatment yet which was given to the students in English learning. Then in Post-Test of Cycle I there were 71% of the students achieve the successful indicator. It improved in Cycle II where the students who got more than 65 were 95% from all the students. This improvement is very satisfied, so the writer ended the research in Cycle II.
The conclusion of this research is Time Token Arends learning Method can improve the students’ English Learning achievement in the fifth grade students of SD Negeri Kalipucang in the academic years 2014/2015.
