IMPROVING READING ABILITY LEVEL THROUGH PICTURE AND PICTURE STRATEGY ( A Classroom Action Research to the Fifth Grade Students of SD N 03&04 Kuta in the Academic Year 2014/2015)

The objectives of this thesis are to explain the implementation of picture and picture strategy in teaching reading and the students’ reading improvement of the fifth grade students of SD N 03&04 Kuta in the Academic Year 2014/2015 through picture and picture strategy.
Based on the review of related literature and frame of thinking, the research hypothesis is drawn as follows: picture and picture strategy can improve reading achievement of the fifth grade students of SD N 03&04 Kuta, Pemalang regency, in the Academic Year 2014/2015.
This research is a Classroom Action Research conducted in two cycles (three meetings of each) and using one group design. The subject in this research are the fifth grade students of SD N 03&04 Kuta. The writer uses 30 students, 15 students from SD N 03 Kuta and the rest from SD N 04 Kuta.
In this research, the writer uses two techniques, they are test and non-test. Belong to the test is reading test. Whether non-test consist of observation, interview, and field note. The data then analyzed to compare the score in pre-cycle with the result that target has been achieved.
The data analysis in SD N 03 Kuta shows that only 33% or 5 students pass KKM in pre-cycle with the mean score was 57,40 (the lowest score was 37 and the highest score was 83) become 40% or 6 students pass KKM in cycle I with the mean score was 62,80 (the lowest score was 46 and the highest score was 82) and 67% or 10 students pass KKM in cycle II with the mean score was 68,00 (the lowest score was 50 and the highest score was 82).
Meanwhile, the data analysis in SD N 04 Kuta shows that only 33% or 5 students pass KKM in pre-cycle with the mean score was 56,20 (the lowest score was 37 and the highest score was 83) become 40% or 6 students pass KKM in cycle I with the mean score was 60,00 (the lowest score was 44 and the highest score was 82) and 67% or 10 students pass KKM in cycle II with the mean score was 67,87 (the lowest score was 44 and the highest score was 82.)
The result indicates that picture and picture strategy can improve students’ reading achievement with the result 7% higher than classical class 60% for both SD N 03 Kuta and SD N 04 Kuta.
