THE EFFECT OF THE APPLICATION OF WRITTEN QUIZ TOWARDS STUDENTS’ READING ACHIEVEMENT IN THE EIGHTH YEAR IN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL ( An Experimental Research on the Students of MTs N Slawi Tegal in the Academic Year 2014 / 2015)

The objectives of this research are to describe the application of written quiz in teaching reading to the eighth year students of MTs N Slawi Tegal and to find out whether the application of writen quiz has positive effect on the students’ reading achievement.
Based on review of related theories, frame of thinking the hypothesis of this research is proposed as follows : the application of written quiz has positive effect toward students’ reading achievement of the eighth year students of MTs N Slawi Tegal in Academic Year 2014/2015.
This population of this research is the eighth year students of MTs N Slawi Tegal in the Academic Year 2014/2015. The total number of the population is 405 students.The writer uses cluster random sampling technique to choose the sample. The number of the sample is 50 students. The sample consists of two groups. The experimental group and the control group, and each group consists of 25 students. The writer uses written test as the instrument of the research. The number of test is 40 items done in 60 minutes. The type of the test is multiple choices with four options (A, B, C and D). To know the validity and reliability of the instrument, the writer had tried out the instrument by giving test to 25 students having the same competence with the sample.
Based on the result of data analysis t-ratio is 8,863 on the level of significance 5% and the degree of freedom (df) 48 the t-table is 2,021. It shows that t-ratio is higher that t-table (8,863 > 2,021). It can be concluded that there is significant difference in reading achievement between the students who are taught by using written quiz and the students who are not taught by using written quiz on the eighth year students of Mts N Slawi Tegal in the Academic year 2014 / 2015.
The writer suggests English teachers in Junior High School to apply written quiz to motivate students in learning reading so they could get high reading achievement.
