THE EFFECT OF PREVIEWING AS PRE-READING ACTIVITY ON STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Study at State Junior High School 4 Tegal In Academic Year 2014/2015 )

The objective of this research is to find out the effect of the Previewing As Pre-Reading to improve students ability in reading comprehension on the Seven Grade Students’ of State Junior High School 4 Tegal in the Academic Year of
2014/2015. The research is done by classifying sample. The sample devides into two group, each group consists of 30 students. The sample is taken by using cluster random sampling technique. The firts group is experimental group that consists of students who are taught by using Previewing As Pre-Reading method and control group that consists of students who are taught without using Previewing As Pre-Reading method.
Each group is given a test containing 30 multiple choice items after the treatment. The writer uses multiple choice test as the research instrument. To find out the validity and reliability of the instrument, the writer gives a try out test to the try out group.
Data analysis of this research is tested by using t-test. Based on the result with the degree of freedom (df) 58 on the level significant of 5% t-table is 2,002. It shows that t-test is higher than t-table (4,347>2,002). It is concluded that there is a significant effect on the reading comprehension between students who are taught by using Previewing As Pre-Reading Method and the students who are taught without using Previewing As Pre-Reading method.
Based on the result, it is concluded that the use of Previewing As Pre- Reading method gives positive effect on Reading Comprehension Achievement of the Seven Grade students of State Junior High School 4 Tegal in academic year
2014/2015. For English teacher, they are suggested to use Previewing as Pre- reading Method in teaching reading comprehension because it is an innovative
and good method to make students’ comprehend the text easily.
