THE EFFECT OF USING BUZZ GROUPS TECHNIQUE ON THE STUDENTS’ READING ABILITY (An Experimental Research on the Eight Grade Students of SMP NEGERI 3 TALANG in the Academic Year of 2013/2014)

The objective of this research is to find out the positive effect of using buzz group technique on the students’ reading ability of the Eight Grade Students of SMP NEGERI 3 TALANG in Academic Year of 2013/2014.
Based on the theoretical background and logical frame of thinking, the hypothesis of this research is “buzz group technique can give positive effect toward the students’ reading ability of the eight grade student of SMP NEGERI 3 TALANG”.
The population of the research is the eight graders of SMP NEGERI 3 TALANG in academic year of 2013/2014. The total number of the population is 286 students. The writer used cluster random sampling technique to choose the sample of the study. The number of the samples is 60 students. The sample consists of two groups. The experimental group and control group, and each group contain 30 students. The experimental group consists of the students who are taught by using buzz group technique and the control group consists of the students who are not taught by using buzz group technique.
The writer uses a test to analyze the data. The writer uses t- test formula to know the different reading ability of the two groups. The writer uses the formula of product Moment to know whether the instrument is valid and reliable.
Based on the result of data, t- ratio is 3,443 and the t- table at the degree of freedom (df) 58 on the level significance (a) 5 % is 1,645. The comparison shows that t- ratio is higher than table (3,443> 1,645).
The conclusion of this research is that the use of buzz group technique can give positive effect on the students’ reading ability in the eight grade students of SMP NEGERI 3 TALANG in the academic year of 2013/2014. The writer suggests English teachers in Junior High School to implement buzz groups technique in teaching. It is to motivate students to get good score in reading ability.
