THE EFFECT OF APPLYING JIGSAW TOWARD STUDENTS’ READING ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Study on Eight Grade Students of Mts.Al Muawanah Petarukan in the Academic Year of 2013/2014)

The objective of this research is to know to know whether Jigsaw technique has positive effect to the students reading achievement at the Eight Grade of MTs.Al Muawanah Petarukan in the academic year of 2013/2014.”
Based on the theory of thinking, the research hypothesis is proposed as follows : Jigsaw game gives positive effect to the students reading achievement at the Eight Grade of Mts Al Muawanah Petarukan in Academic year of 2013/2014.
This research is experimental. In conducting the research, the writer used two group designs. Population of this research is students of the eight grade of Mts.Al Muawanah Petarukan which is totally 175 students. Two group design technique is used to take the sample. The sample consists of 60 students that divided into two groups. Sample 1 as group 1 consists of 30 students who are taught by jigsaw method and sample 2 as group 2 consists of 30 students who are not taught by jigsaw method. In this research, the writer used multiple choices reading test as the instrument of the research which consists of 30 items.
To analyze the data, the writer used t-test formula to know the difference of the two groups. Based on the result of data analysis, score of t-table at 5% level of significances is 2,002. While t-ratio is 3,11957. So, t-ratio is higher than t-table (23,11957>2,002). According to this calculation, hypothesis null is rejected and hypothesis of this research is accepted. It means that Jigsaw technique has positive effect to the students reading achievement at the Eight Grade MTs.Al Muawanah Petarukan in the academic year of 2013/2014.”
The conclusion of this research is “Jigsaw technique has positive effect to the students reading achievement at the Eight Grade MTs.Al Muawanah Petarukan in the academic year of 2013/2014.
English teachers are suggested to apply Jigsaw technique in the teaching of reading. They should also motivate their students to work more creative.
