THE EFFECT OF USING PROBLEM BASED INTRODUCTION (PBI) METHOD TOWARD STUDENTS WRITING ABILITY (An Experimental Research of the tenth grade students of SMK Maarif NU 02 Bantarkawung of The Academic Year of 2013 / 2014)

The objectives of this research are to describe the implementation of using Problem Based Introduction Method (PBI) of the students writing ability, to find out whether or not there is positive effect in students writing ability after being taught by Problem Based Introduction Method (PBI).
This research is experimental research. The population of this research is the tenth grade students ofSMK Maarif NU 02 Bantarkawung in the academic year of 2013 / 2014, that consists of 105 students. The writer taken 60 students as the sample of the research. This research is done by classifying sample into two groups. Each group consists of 30 students. The sample is taken by using random sampling technique and they are divided into two groups, first group is experimental group that consists of students who are taught by usingProblem Based Introduction Method (PBI) and second group is control group that consists of students who are taught without using Problem Based Introduction Method (PBI). In this research, the writer uses writing test.
Based on the result of the research, the writer uses t-ratio to test the difference of the mean of the two groups. The result is that t-ratiois 3,333 with the degree of freedom (df) is 58, the level significance is 6% (α) and the t-table is 2,000. It means that the t-ratiois higher than t-table (3,333>2,000).
From the result of data analysis, the writer can conclude that using problem based introduction method (PBI) gives positive effect towards writing ability of the tenth grade of SMK Maarif NU 02 Bantarkawung in the academic year of 2013 / 2014.
There are several suggestions in order to increase the students’ writing ability. First, the teacher should find interesting method or technique which is suitable for the learning material and the goal of the learning. Second, using problem based introduction method is easy to apply and it can be used as references raise students’ motivation in teaching learning process.
