THE EFFECT OF SIX TRAITS WRITING STRATEGY TOWARDS STUDENTS’ WRITING ABILITY IN DESCRIPTIVE TEXT (An Experimental Study at the Tenth Grade Students of SMA NU 01 Suradadi in the Academic Year of 2014/2015)

The objective of the study is to find out whether there is positive effect towards students’ ability in writing descriptive text by using Six Traits Writing Strategy to the tenth grade students of SMA NU 01 Suradadi - Tegal in the Academic Year of 2014/2015.
The population of the study is the tenth grade of SMA NU 01 Suradadi in academic year 2014/2015 with total number of class X is 69 students consist of three classes. The writer used two-group design as research methodology and also the writer used cluster random sampling technique to choose the sample of the research. The sample consists of two groups, they are X.1 as experiment group and X.2 as control group, the experiment group consists of 20 students. And the control group consists of 20 students. The form of the test is developing an outlines based of the theme, from the test the students are able to develop the main sentences of descriptive text as many as one hundred and fifty words in maximum.
Based on the data analysis, the t-test is 2,438 with the degree of freedom 38 on the significance level of 5% t-table is 1,686. The computation shows that t-test is higher than t-table (2,438 > 1,686). It means that the hypothesis of the research is accepted.
The conclusion of the research is that there is a positive effect from the result of experiment group by using Six Traits Writing Strategy. In addition, the teacher could use Six Traits Writing Strategy in students’ writing for the better result and effectiveness.
