THE EFFECT OF USING CHAINING METHOD TOWARD STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Study on the Fifth Grade Students of SDN Jrakah 03 Taman Pemalang Regency in the Academic Year of 2014/2015)

The Objective of this research is to find out the effect of using Chaining Method toward students’ vocabulary achievement (An Experimental Research on the Fifth Grade Students of SDN Jrakah 03, Taman Pemalang Regency in the Academic Year of 2014/2015).
Based on the review of related and theory and frame of thinking, the hypothesis of this research is proposed as follow: “there is positive effect of using Chaining Method toward the fifth grade students’ vocabulary achievement of SDN Jrakah 03 Taman Pemalang Regency in the academic year of 2014/2015.
The research is experimental which consists of two-group design. The design uses experiment group and control group. The population of this research is all the fifth grade students of Elementary School in SDN 03 jrakah in the academic year of 2014/2015. It. The writer uses random sampling technique to take the sample. The sample of this research is the fifth grade students of SDN Jrakah 03 Taman. Its total number is 40 students. The sample was divided into two groups. Each group consists of 20 students. The first group is the experimental group from the class VA and the second group is the control group from class VB. The experimental group is taught by using chaining method while the control group is taught by using GTM. Then both of them are given the same vocabulary test. The writer uses a multiple choice test as the instrument of the research. It consists of 30 items, which have four options A,B,C and D.
The result of the data analysis t-counted is 3,250 with degree of freedom (df) = 38 and the level significance of 5% t-table is 2,021. It means that t-counted is higher than t-table (3,250 > 2,021). Therefore, it can be concluded that zero hypothesis (H0) is refused and hypothesis of the research (H1) is accepted. It means that there is significant difference of teaching vocabulary by using chaining method and those who are not.
The conclusion of this research shows that there is positive effect of using chaining method toward the students vocabulary achievement of the fifth grade students in SDN Jrakah 03 Taman Pemalang Regency in academic year of 2014/2015.
