THE INFLUENCE OF USING WORD MAPPING STRATEGY TOWARDS STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY (An Experimental Research of The First Grade Students of State Senior High School 5 in the Academic Year 2014/2015)

The objective of this research is to find out whether using word mapping strategy can give the positive influence on students’ vocabulary mastery at the first grade students of State Senior High School 5 Tegal in the Academy Year 2014/2015.
Based on the frame of thinking and related theories, the writer formulates hypothesis as follows: There is a positive influence of using word mapping strategy towards the students’ vocabulary mastery at the First grade students of State Senior High School 5 Tegal in the Academy Year 2014/2015.
The population of this research is the first grade students of State Senior High School 5 Tegal in the Academy Year 2014/2015. The writer takes 60 students from population to be the sample of the research. The writer uses two group design, there are two group, experimental group and control group. In the experimental group, there are 30 students who are taught by using word mapping strategy and in the control group, there are 30 students who are not taught by using word mapping strategy. The writer uses cluster random sampling technique to choose students as the sample of the research, that is divided into two groups. The instrument of this research is multiple choice test which has 50 items and there are five options in each item.
Data analysis of this research is tested by using t-test. Based on the result of data analysis of this research t-test is 3,660, with degree of freedom (df) = (n1+n2) – 2 =(30+30) – 2 = 58 and than the writer consulted into t-table with 5% significant level was 2,002. It proved that the result of the t-test was higher than t-table (3,660 > 2,002), the research hypothesis is accepted, so the null hypothesis (h0) is REJECTED and the alternative hypothesis (h1) is ACCEPTED. It shows that there is a positive influence of using word mapping strategy towards students’ vocabulary mastery at the first grade students of State Senior High School 5 Tegal in the Academic Year 2014/2015. Teachers should know many methods or techniques to teach the students and to make the students feel enjoy when they are learning. One of the good strategy is by using word mapping strategy to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery. The teachers are suggested to use word mapping strategy to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery.
