THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING WHOLESOME SCATTERING GAME TOWARD STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT

Key Words: Wholesome Scattering Game, Students’ Writing Ability, The objective of this research is to find out the positive effect of using Wholesome Scattering Game toward students’ ability in writing descriptive text to the seventh grade students of SMP N 1 Tegal in the academic year 2014/2015.
The population of this research is the seventh grade students of SMP N 1 Tegal. The total population is 239 students which is divided into 8 classes. Based on the total population, the writer takes 60 students as the sample by using cluster random sampling technique. The writer divides the sample into two classes. Each class consists of 30 students. The first class is students who are taught by using Wholesome Scattering Game and the second class is students who are not taught by using Wholesome Scattering Game. The writer uses writing test as the instruments of the research. The type is essay type. The students are required to write down two paragraphs consisting of 10 sentences. The students are given 45 minutes to do the test.
The data of the research are calculated by using writing test. The data analysis is tested by using t-test. Based on the result of data analysis, the result of the test is 2,346. Then, the writer consults it to t-table with 5 % significance level and the degree of freedom (df) df = 30 + 30 - 2 = 58 obtained 1,645. It is found that t0 is higher than t-table 2,346 >1,645, so null hypothesis (H0) is not accepted and hypothesis of the research (H1) is accepted. It means that wholesome scattering game gives positive effect toward students’ ability in writing descriptive text in SMP N 1 Tegal in the academic year 2014/2015. Based on the result of the research, the teachers are advised to use Wholesome Scattering Game in teaching writing to improve the students’ writing ability.
