Reading comprehension is fundamental for English foreign learners in getting information and knowledge. To increase the student’s skill in reading the writers uses narrative text in teaching learning reading. Narrative text deal with problematic events which lead to crisis or turning point of some kind, which in turn finds a resolution. The population of this research is the Second Grade Students of MTs Al-Munawwaroh Tegal in The Academic Year 2013/2014. The number of the students are 40 students. The sample in this research is taken by using Cluster Random Sampling technique. The writer needs 2 classes as the sample. The writer divides the sample into two groups and each group consists of 20 students. The first group is an Experimental group consisting of the students who are taught by using Short stories for teaching reading narrative and the second group is a control group consisting of the students who are not taught by using Short story for teaching reading narrative. The writer had tried out instrument to the Second Grade Students of MTs Al-Munawwaroh Tegal in The Academic Year 2013/2014. Based on the data analysis, t-counted are 5,645 with the degree of freedom (df) = 38 and the level of significance (α) 5% and the t-table is 1,645. It means that the t-counted is higher than the t-table (5,645 > 1,645). It means that the zero hypotheses (Ho) is refused and hypothesis of the research (H1) is accepted. So, students who are taught teaching reading using short story get better reading achievement than those who are taught reading by using lectures structural approach.
