THE EFFECT OF USING PARAPRHASING TECHNIQUE ON STUDENTS’ SPEAKING FLUENCY (An Experimental Study to the Tenth Grade Students of SMA N 2 TEGAL in the Academic Year 2015/2016)

This research is purposed to describe the implementation of Paraphrasing Technique. In learning speaking fluency, many students thinks that speaking is easy to practice, in fact they still have difficulties when they want to utterance something base on their own idea, The writer choose to apply Paraphrasing technique to students’ speaking fluency, because paraphrasing technique is one of teaching technique which can solve the problem of student’s speaking fluency. So, the writer uses Paraphrasing technique to overcome the problems.
The problem of this research are; (1) Is Paraphrasing Technique effective in teaching speaking fluency? (2) How effective is Paraphrasing technique in teaching speaking fluency? (3) Is there any significant difference in speaking achievement between the students who are taught using Paraphrasing technique and the students who are not taught using Paraphrasing technique?
The writer uses quantitative research as approach, and this experimental research by using two-group design. The population of this research is all tenth graders of SMA N 2 Tegal in the academic year of 2014/2015. While the number of sample by random sampling technique is fourty students from X MIA3 X MIA 4. Based on calculation, the data analysed by utilizing SPSS 17. To measure the implementation of Paraphrasing technique is effective in teaching speaking fluency, the writer is analysed by using t-test formula. Based on the calculation of means in two unrelated group, output result Sig.(2-tailed) is 0,014 = 1,4%. Since the Sig.(2-tailed) is lower than the significant level of 5%, It means there is significant difference between students who are taught using paraphrasing technique and students who are not taught using paraphrasing technique.
The conclusion of the research is that there is a positive effect of using paraphrasing technique to students’ speaking fluency. By using paraphrasing technique, the students can work with themselves in exploring their imagination and the teacher learns how to maximize the student’s courage in speaking.
The writer suggests that paraphrasing technique is appropriate and effective technique in teaching speaking fluency which easy to be implemented and useful to solving students’ problem in speaking.
