THE EFFECT OF USING SCAFFOLDING METHOD TOWARDS STUDENTS’ WRITING ABILITY (An Experimental Research to the Second Grade Students of MTs NU 01 Warureja in Tegal regency for Academic year 2015/2016)

The objectives of this research are to describe the implementation of Scaffolding method in the classroom, to find out the effect of using Scaffolding method towards students’ writing ability, to find out the difference between student who are taught by using Scaffolding method and those who are not. The research hypothesis is the use of Scaffolding method gives positive effect towards student writing ability. Scaffolding method is applied at the eight grade students of MTs NU 01 Warureja-Tegal in the academic year 2015/2016.
The population of this research is the eighth grade students of MTs NU 01 Warureja-Tegal. The total population is 204 students which is divided into 5 classes. From the total population, the writer takes 80 students as the sample of the research by using cluster random sampling technique. The writer divides the sample into two classes. Each class consists of 40 students. The first class is students who are taught by using Scaffolding method as experiment class and the second class is students who are not taught by using Scaffolding method as control class. After teaching for seven meetings, the writer gives a writing test. The students are required to write down two paragraphs consisting at least 15 sentences. The students are given 55 minutes to do the test.
The data of the research are collected from writing test. The data analysis is tested by using t-test. Based on the result of data analysis, the result of the test is 3,652. Then, the writer consults it to t-table with 5 % significance level and the degree of freedom (df) df = 40 + 40 - 2 = 78 obtained 2,576. It is found that t0 is higher than t-table 3,652 > 2,576, so null hypothesis (H0) is not accepted and hypothesis of the research (H1) is accepted.
Furthemore, it show Scaffolding method gives positive effect towards students’ writingability in MTs NU01 Warureja-Tegal in the academic year 2015/2016. Based on the result of the research, the writer suggest teachers are advised to use Scaffolding Method in teaching writing to improve the students’ writing ability.
