THE EFFECT OF USING PICTIONARY GAME TOWARDS STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT OF THE SEVENTH GRADE OF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL (An Experimental Research in the State Junior High 12 Tegal in Academic Year of 2015/2016)

The aim of the research is to find out the effect of using Pictionary game towards students’ vocabulary achievement of the seventh grade of State Junior High School 12 Tegal in the Academic Year of 2014/2015.
Based on related theory, the research hypothesis is proposed as follows : there is a positive effect of using Pictionary game towards students’ vocabulary achievement of the seventh grade of State Junior High School 12 Tegal in academic year of 2014/2015.
This research is experimental research. The population of this research is the seventh grade students of State Junior High School 12 Tegal in the academic year of 2014/2015 which consists of 161 students from 5 classes. In this research, the researcher uses 2 classes (VII D and VII E) which consist of 30 students for each class as the sample who are selected by using cluster random sampling technique. In designing study, the researcher uses Two-Group Design which consists of two classes that have same level, those are class VII E as experiment group who are taught by using Pictionary game and class VII D as control group who are not taught by using Pictionary game. The researcher uses vocabulary test as the type of instrument of the research by using multiple choice design which consist of 30 items with four alternatives a, b, c and d.
To analyze the data, the researcher used t-test formula to know the difference of vocabulary achievement of the two groups. Based on the result of data analysis, the score of t-table at 5% level of significances is 1,645. While t-ratio is 2,108. So, t-ratio is higher than t-table (2,108>1,645). According to this calculation, the research hypothesis of this research is accepted. It means that there is significant difference on vocabulary achievement between the students who are taught by using Pictionary gameand those who are not taught by using Pictionary game.
The conclusion of this research shows that using Pictionary Game has a positive effect on vocabulary achievement of the seventh grade students of State Junor High School 12 Tegal in the academic year of 2014/2015.
As suggestion, the teacher should be able to select the appropriate model of teaching vocabulary just like using Pictionary game because it can reduce students’stress and boredom.
