THE EFFECT OF USING STORY PYRAMID TECHNIQUE ON READING ACHIEVEMENT OF THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS AT JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL (An Experimental Study on the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 2 Tarub in Academic Year of 2015/2016)

The objective of this research is to know whether there is any positive effect of applying Story Pyramid Technique on Eighthgrade students’ reading achievement of junior high school.
Based on the theory, the reasearch hypothesis is drawn as follows: students who are taught by Story Pyramid Technique will get better reading achievement than those who are not taught by Story Pyramid Technique in the academic year 2015/2016.
This is on experimental research. The research has been conducted at State Junior High School 2 Tarub in the academic year 2015/2016. The total subject is 245 students. In this research, the writer uses random sampling technique to choose the subject of the research. The writer takes 60 students as the sample of the research. They are divided into two groups. Each group consists of 30 students. The first group (Experimental group) comparises the students who are taught by Story Pyramid Technique and the other group (Control group) comparises the students who are not taught by Story Pyramid Technique.
To check the reading achievement after the treatment was given to the experimental group and the control group, the writer gave a test directly. The kind of test is a multiple choice about test reading and it consists of 50 items.
Data analysis of this research is tested by usingt-test. Based on the data analysis, t-ratio is 3,253with the degree of freedom (df) 58 on the level of significant of 5% t-table is 2.000, it shows that t-ratio is higher than t-table (3,253>2.000). It means that there is significant difference of the reading comprehension between students who are taught by using Story Pyramid Technique and the students who are taught without Story Pyramid Technique.
The conclusion of this research is Using Story Pyramid Technique gives positive effect toward Students’ reading achievement of the eighth grade of State Junior High School 2 Tarub in the academic year 2015/2016. However, Using Story Pyramid Technique in teaching reading is recommended as an alternative way for the English teacher, especially for Junior High School teachers to attract the students’ interest and motivation in learning English. Story Pyramid Technique makes students reading material be understood indetail, and it makes the students enjoy in the learning process. So, it can improve the students reading comprehension.
