THE EFFECT OF ANIMATION MOVIE TOWARD STUDENTS’ LISTENING ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Research to the Seventh Grade Students of SMP Negeri 11Tegal in the Academic Year of 2015/2016)

Listening is one of the important skills for students to master. This implies that the teaching of listening is essential for students, since it will be useful for them in order to be able to gain information and knowledge from any spoken text. However, many students still have difficulties in identifying and understanding what speaker says. Therefore, teaching listening needs a media to make teaching learning process run well. For this reason, the research on animation movie was implemented as a solution to overcome those problem.
The problems are formulated, as follow: (1) Is animation movie effective to teach listening to the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 11 Tegal in the academic year of 2015/2016?, (2) How effective is animation movie to teach listening to the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 11 Tegal in the academic year of 2015/2016?, and (3) Is there any significant difference between the students who are taught by using animation movie and the students who are taught without using animation movie?
This is an experimental research with two-group design. The population of this research is all seventh graders of SMP Negeri 11 Tegal in the Academic Year of 2015/2016. While the number of sample which is taken by using random sampling technique is sixty students from class VII A and class VII F. Moreover, pre-test and post-test were conducted with listening test as the test instrument.
The data analyzed by utilizing SPSS 17 shows that the Independent Sample T-test is 0,000 dropping below 0,05. So H1 is accepted and H0 is refused. It implies that animation movie is effective to teach listening. While, the mean of control and experimental group is 74.53 and 79.17. This shows that there is significant difference in listening achievement between students who are taught by using animation movie and those who are not. The writer concluded that animation movie gives positive effect on students’ listening achievement to the seventh graders of SMP Negeri 11 Tegal in the academic year of 2015/2016. Finally, animation movie is recommended to be used in teaching listening.
