TEACHING READING COMPREHENSION THROUGH WARMING UP ACTIVITIES (An Experimental Research to the Eighth Grade Students of SMPN 3 Larangan in the Academic Year of 2014/2015)

This research is to find out the effectiveness of using Warming Up Activities in language classroom. Warming Up Activities have a number of benefits. Warming Up Activities may interest among students, motivate the students and increase students participation for beginning the class. Therefore, the researcher decides to use Warming Up Activiteis to teach reading for the eighth grade students.
There are four research questions, (1) Are Warming Up Activities effective to teach reading comprehension to the eight grade students of SMPN 3 Larangan in the academic year of 2014/2015?, (2) How effective are Warming Up Activities to teach reading comprehension to the eight grade students of SMPN 3 Larangan in the academic year of 2014/2015? (3) Are there any significant difference in reading comprehension between the students who are taught using Warming Up Activities and the students who are not taught using Warming Up Activities to the eight grade students of SMPN 3 Larangan in the academic year of 2014/2015?.
This is an experimental research.The research uses two groups designwhich consist between of the experimental and control group. Each group consists of 30 students. The sample is taken by using random sampling technique. Experimental group consists of students who are taught by using Warming Up Activities.In the last treatment, the researcher gives a post-test to the experiment group and control group tomeasure whether there is significant difference of students’ reading comprehension who are taught through warming up activities by using t-test.
The result of the significant ( 2-tailed) is 0.000 and it is lower than 0.05 (0.000<0.05). It means that H03is rejected. So the result of this research is that there is positive effect of teching reading comprehension through Warming Up Activities in the eight grade students of SMPN 3 Larangan. The conclusion of this research show that Warming Up Activities gives possitive effect and there is significant differences on students’ reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMPN 3 Larangan in the academic year 2014/2015.
