THE EFFECT OF USING FISHBOWL TECHNIQUE IN TEACHING WRITING NARRATIVE TEXT (An Experimental Study in the Second Grade Students of SMP N 11 Tegal in Academic Year of 2014/2015)

The objective of this research is to find out the positive effect of using Fishbowl Technique in Teaching Writing’ ability in writing Narrative text to the second grade students of SMP N 11 Tegal in the academic year 2014/2015.
The population of this research is the second grade students of SMP N 11Tegal. The total population is 183 students which is divided into 5 classes. Based on the total population, the writer takes 60 students as the sample by using cluster random sampling technique.The writer divides the sample into two classes. Each class consists of 30 students. The first class is students who are taught by using Fishbowl Technique in Teaching Writing and the second class is students who are not taught by using Fishbowl Technique in Teaching Writing.
The writer uses writing test as the instrument of the research. The type is essay type. The students are required to write down two paragraphs consisting of 10 sentences. The students are given 45 minutes to do the test.
The data of the research are calculated by using writing test. The data analysis is tested by using t-test. Based on the result of data analysis, the result of the test is 2,346. Then, the writer consults it to t-table with 5 % significance level and the degree of freedom (df) df = 30 + 30 - 2 = 58 obtained 1,645. It is found that t0 is higher than t-table 2,346 >1,645, so null hypothesis (H0) is not accepted and hypothesis of the research (H1) is accepted. It means that Fishbowl Technique gives positive effect toward students’ ability in writing narrative text in SMP N 11 Tegal in the academic year 2014/2015. Based on the result of the research, the teachers are advised to useFishbowl Technique in Teaching writing ability.
