The Effect of Using Genre Based Approach (GBA) towards Students’ Writing Achievement in Making Descriptive Text (An Experimental Research of the Tenth Grade Students of SMA Negeri 2 Slawi in the Academic Year of 2014/2015)

The objectives of this research are as follows: (1) to find out whether Genre Based Approach (GBA) gives positive effect on students’ writing achievement in making descriptive text or not of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Slawi in the academic year of 2014/2015 (2) to find out whether there are any differences of students’ writing achievement between those who are taught by using Genre Based Approach (GBA) in making descriptive text and those taught by using traditional approach in the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 2 Slawi in the academic year of 2014/2015.
The writer used 60 students of the tenth grade of SMA N 2 Slawi in the academic year of 2014/2015 from two classes as the sample of the research and they are divided into two groups. The first group is an experimental group. It consists of 30 students who are taught by Genre Based Approach (GBA). The second group is control group. It consists of 30 students who are not taught by Genre Based Approach (GBA). The research used test as the instrument of the research.
The result of posttest score shows that the sum of the experimental group is 231 and the control group is 220,2. It means the effect of this model gives positive effect towards the students’ writing achievement in making descriptive text. Then, the calculation of t-test shows that t-test is 3.333 with the degree of freedom (df) is 58. The level significance is 5% and the t-table is 2.000. It means that t-test is significantly higher than t-table (3.333>2.000). Therefore, the null hypothesis (Ho) is refused and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. The result of this study means that there is significant difference on students’ writing achievement between students who are taught with GBA and students who are taught using traditional approach of tenth grade of SMA N 2 Slawi. Based on the research hypothesis, the empirically proven that the use of GBA has positive influence on students writing achievement of the tenth grade of SMA N 2 Slawi in academic year 2014/2015.
