THE EFFECT OF USING RECIPROCAL TEACHING STRATEGY ON STUDENTS' VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT (An Experimental Study on the Seventh Students of SMP N 12 Tegal in the Academic Year of 2015/2016)

The objective of the study is to find out whether the use of Reciprocal Teaching gives positive effect on Students’ Vocabulary Achievement (An experimental study on the seventh students at SMP N 12 Tegal in the academic year of 2015 / 2016).
The population of the study is the seventh grade students of SMP N 12 Tegal in academic year 2015/2016 with total number of class VII is 170 students consisting of 6 classes. The writer uses two group design as research methodology and also random sampling technique to choose the sample of the research. The sample consists of two groups, the first group is experimental group and the second group is control group. The experimental group is taught by using Reciprocal Teaching and the control group is taught by using Grammar Translation Method. Each group consists of 30 students. The form of the test is multiple choice consisting of 30 questions which has four options: A,B,C,D.
Based on the data analysis, t-ratio is 4,500 with the degree of freedom (df) 58 and the level of significance (α) 5% and the t-table is 2,042. It means that t-ratio is higher than t-table (4,500 > 2,042). It means that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the hypothesis of the research (H1) is accepted.
It can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the students who are taught by reciprocal teaching and the students who are taught by grammar translation method. The use of Reciprocal Teaching gives positive effect to Students’ Vocabulary Achievement. Therefore, it is suggested to teacher to used reciprocal teaching on Students’ Vocabulary Achivement on seventh grade.
