Achievement
The objective of this research is to find out whether Exposure Generalization Reinforcement Application (EGRA) technique is effective to use in teaching of writing to the eighth grade students of SMP N 4 Tanjung in the second semester of the academic year of 2016/2017. EGRA is a shortened form of the term Experience, Generalization, Reinforcement, and Application. EGRA technique will lead the students to be better at writing skill. EGRA technique helps the teacher make the students active by giving challenging question to get the use and form of the descriptive text. This research is experimental research. This experimental research uses cluster random sampling with two group design (experimental group and control group). The population of this research is 142 students from 4 classes. The total samples are 60; 30 students are in the experimental group and 30 students are in control group. The experimental group is the group of students who are taught by using Exposure Generalization Reinforcement Application (EGRA) technique and control group is the group of students who are not taught by using Exposure Generalization Reinforcement Application (EGRA) technique. This research gives writing test to the sample as a post test to get the data . The writer calculates t-test is 3.127 with degree of freedom 58 and the degree of significance level of 0.05. T table is 1.672. It can be concluded that hypothesis of this research (H1) is ACCEPTED because the result of ttest is higher than ttable (3.127>1.672). Based on the result, the writer suggests that English teacher can use EGRA technique to teach writing especially in teaching descriptive text.
